SFU Community Trust was established to oversee the planning and development of UniverCity, a sustainable master-planned community adjacent to one of Canada’s leading academic institutions, Simon Fraser University, located on scenic Burnaby Mountain, a 15 minute drive from downtown Vancouver. SFU Community Trust has two goals: First, to create a complete community on Burnaby Mountain, with a diverse selection of housing and a full range of shops, services and amenities. Currently over 5,000 residents have made UniverCity their home; by 2022, the community will achieve full buildout with approximately 9,500 residents. Second, to build an endowment fund to support teaching and research at SFU. To date, UniverCity had contributed over $38.9m to the SFU Endowment Fund for research and education. The SFU Community Corporation (the Trust) is governed by an independent Board of Directors that includes SFU stakeholders, faculty and student representatives, as well as external members with expertise in real estate development, finance, law, and other related disciplines. As trustee, that Board sets policy for SFU Community Trust, helping to shape the future of UniverCity.
